Economist Garth Saloner has been appointed as Dean of Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. Mr. Garth Saloner will take over as dean Sept. 1. 2009 and will succeed Robert Joss, the out going dean.
Garth Saloner was professor at Stanford since 1990, specializes in electronic commerce, strategic management and economics. He founded the business school's Center for Electronic Business and Commerce in 1999, and is currently director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies.
In 2006, Garth Saloner led an overhaul of Stanford's MBA program that loosened course requirements and allowed students to count classes in other disciplines toward the degree.
Mr. Garth Saloner has advised major Silicon Valley companies -- including eBay Inc., Cisco Systems Inc. and Intel Corp. -- on business strategy and e-commerce.
